Examples of Brindle & White
Brindle is a pattern. It can range from just a tiny hint of brindle on a mostly solid dog (referred to as Black or Seal & White With Brindle), to bold stripes throughout the entire coat. The striping can be minimal or can be bright and striking in appearance. It can be somewhat muted, and it can be distinct.
Brindle comes in many shades, from deep reds and browns to light golden hues under a black or seal striped pattern. The deep reddish brindles are often referred to as "Mahogany Brindle" which was the most desired color at the start of the breed. The light brindles are often referrred to as "Golden Brindle", even "Tiger Brindle however there is not official term for it in the current or past standards.
Black or seal with brindle, when the dark takes up most of the coat with only a little brindle, it's called a "Reverse" Brindle. This is a term used in Boxers that refer to brindle striping so heavy, it appears to be a dark dog with light stripes when in actuality, it's a lighter dog with stripes so heavy you barely see the light coming through. This term is often misused to describe a golden brindle, however there is nothing "reverse" about this pattern. Brindle is a reddish, brown or golden background with black or seal stripes. One with sparse brindling and a lighter backgroud is simply a brindle, or sometimes referred to more correctly as a "Golden Brindle".
Again, these are not terms used in the standard but used in other breeds and helps us to understand the different shades.
Brindle Boston Terriers have black noses. Blue and liver or other colored noses are not acceptable, making any possessing these attributes is a disqualifying color and is not acceptable by the BTCA/AKC Standard.
